Welcome to The Wood Hound, my name is Dena, and I am so excited you are here!
About Me the Dog Mom
Welcome to my home of the hounds!
I am first and foremost a dog mom. All the kids grew up and left me with an empty house so being a mom all my life I had to take care of something and loving my fur babies the way I do it was the perfect choice.
With creating this website it allows me to reach out to those of you that have made a hound dog part of your family as I have, and help all hound lovers by discussing all things hounds. Even though I am a bit partial to Basset Hounds and Treeing Walker Coonhounds, I love all dogs and creating this website gives me the ability to help everyone I can to have healthy, happy, and well-adjusted hounds.
I am a down to earth type of person and I love spending time cuddling with the fur babies, blogging, working in the wood shop, hanging out in the garden and many other projects around our house, I am a nature person and love anything that is all natural.
People think I am crazy for having seven dogs but they are my life. Yes! there is a lot of fur that is shed. I joke with my husband each time that I sweep the floor we have added another dog to the house with the amount of fur that I pick up. Then there is the water on the floor from the basset hound ears, Oh my Gosh another river, and generally in my shoe.
How Did The Wood Hound Get Its Name
So how did I come up with the name The Wood Hound? The love for hound dogs and love of woodworking, thus thewoodhound.com was born.
Let me tell you a funny story we all know basset hounds love to chew on wood correct? Each time we would bring home new wood for a project, we would lay it down on the shop floor and then a few days later, the corners of all the boards would be rounded off. We all know how this happened. Wood Hounds.
Why Did I Create The Wood Hound?
As a lover of hound dogs, and my experience with Basset Hounds and Treeing Walker Coonhounds, and many other dogs I hav shared my life and home with, I started this community to help out hound lovers everywhere learn about hounds and how to keep those hounds healthy, happy and well-adjusted. My hope is that hound lovers everywhere will find my site informative and I would love to help you in raising, maintaining and loving those hounds anyway I can.

How does The Wood Hound make a profit to keep it going? This is another area where you can help support The Wood Hound with no cost to you. I love this website! And I love your introduction about you. Your love for your fur babies shine.
The story about how Wood Hound site got its name is so cute! My fur friend did that to my wooden chair, too. All the wooden chair in my home were all right. But this particular one that I sit in, at my work desk, all the corners are chewed into.
I believe it is my fur friend’s way of reminding me she was around. hahaha
Thanks for your comment, I am so glad you love this website and appreciate your dedication to the site. Dogs really do have a love for chewing on wood, I know all of mine do. I know it can be frustrating at times, but gotta love those fur babies. I have lost a couple of rocking chairs due to new puppies in the house, I am sure glad that we have a wood shop and my husband is a master of fixing anything in wood.
Hi Dena,
I have enjoyed meeting you outside your website and LOVE this site. I do not have wood hounds but the value you put on our furbabies, in general, keep me coming back. You are always thoughtful and considerate in all your posts and relay very knowledgeable information. You truly are an expert in your field that I have come to rely on!
Thanks Christina! I really appreciate the wonderful compliment, I work hard to bring good information to our fur babies parents. Even though, my site is mainly centered around the hounds, I try to relate the information to other breeds as well. I love all dogs and have had many different breeds in my lifetime. I have found throughout the years, most often that information on dog breeds in general is for most; however, sometimes certain breeds may vary a bit.
Hello Dena,
What a nice website you have. It is obvious that you love dogs and care for their well-being. So great that you share your knowledge about everything concerning dogs. By reading your posts I see that your seven dogs couldn’t have a better Dog-Mum than you!
All the best for you and your beloved four-legged friends.

Yes, my hound dogs are my life. At this time I have 2 basset hounds and 4 treeing walker coonhounds that keep me very busy. Woke up this morning with snow on the ground and my baby Abigail was not real sure about going out, as she is built so low to the ground, but after getting out there she had a blast in the snow with all her other houndy sisters.
Make sure to check out about the hounds on my website at this link: About The Hounds
