Have you considered giving your dog CDB Oil and find yourself asking is CBD Oil and Dogs a Good Mix? What is CBD Oil anyway? Let’s explore CBD for dogs and find out how to decide and how it may benefit your dog.
I know in the past, I have ask myself these same questions and more, with the growing amount of research that has been conducted it sounds like the use of CBD Oil for dogs is gaining recognition and popularity, even with our fur babies.
Many times our dogs suffer with things such as inflammation, separation anxiety and even illnesses such as epilepsy. What we normally do to aid our furry friends is turn to prescription drugs that our vet recommends, but is there an alternative that does not entail all the side effects that come with prescription drugs?
I am sure by now if you are reading this, you are considering CBD for your dog and have some questions. A couple years ago, before I became more knowledgeable and aware of the many benefits that CBD provides, I had several questions and I am sure they are many of the same questions you have. So, I am going to address some of these questions such as:
“What is CBD Oil?”
“What is the best CBD Oil for dogs?”
“Will CBD Oil hurt my dog?”
“How can CBD Oil benefit my dog?”
“Is it legal?”
As we continue to explore we should be able to answer all these questions and have more of an educated decision on CBD and Dogs.
Many people are raving over the benefits of using CBD Oil for dogs, and people too. From what I understand many vets are even starting to recognize the benefits; however, some are still on the fence or not ready to accept the liabilities of prescribing CBD Oil.
What is CDB Oil?
CBD is derived from the hemp plant making it an all-natural substance, providing it is regulated in the US and does not contain additional synthetic formulas. CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol, and is one of the 85 cannabinoids that is identified in the cannabis plant.
Cannabidiol should be the main active compound in the hemp plant that it is extracted from so that it does not cause any psychoactive results when ingested, unlike marijuana or THC.
CBD Oil should be made from the full spectrum Cannabis plant and mixed with cold pressed hemp seed oil to have the best results and a non-psychoactive result. No one wants to make their dog high, right?
CBD Oil works with the endocannabinoid system, which is part of most every mammal and is made up of cannabinoid receptor sites throughout the body. Some of these cannabinoid receptors include the C1 and C2 which are found within the immune system, brain, nervous system and organs.

What Is The Best CBD Oil For Dogs?
In doing the research I have found the best CBD Oil for dogs is one that is a full spectrum Cannabidiol and is under the US federal legal guidelines of less than .03% THC.
You want to make sure the CBD Oil you are purchasing is made from the whole plant and is CO2 expressed to maintain all the phytochemicals and phytocannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids, ensuring a potent product.
Make sure the CBD Oil you are considering for your pet is organic grown, third party tested and contains locally sourced ingredients such as local reputable farms in the US, as they are highly regulated by the government and the plants are tested at regular intervals.
As the popularity increases many of the CBD Oils on the market, are not regulated, and can contain synthetics, and may only contain traces of the cannabidiol, or may have a higher concentrate of THC, which is not good for our fur babies.
When it comes down to CBD Oil and Dogs, I have seen many second rate products out on the market. In checking the label you find that it contains many ingredients other than just CBD and hemp seed oil.
Most of these come with a lower price tag and under 500mg. and as they say you get what you pay for. come in either liquid drops. The best type of CBD Oil is one that is clear with a golden tint and of course all natural. Many of the CBD Oils you can get for your dogs may be cloudy and not claim to be natural or organic.
Will CBD Oil Hurt My Dog?
From the research and personal experience, I have found there is very rarely any kind of side effects with giving CBD Oil to you dog; however, the research indicates that you have to possibly work on getting the right serving for you dog as it depends on the dog and how it is metabolized.
The only known side effect issues that CBD Oil can cause in dogs, and again this is in very rare cases is they may seem sluggish or hyperactive.
If your dog seems to have any of these side effects, the experts suggest to stop giving the CBD for one or two days and consider starting them over with smaller servings and working your way up as some dogs may tolerate it better than others. We want something that works not something that causes other issues, right?
I would not give the same amount to a Chihuahua as I would a Mastiff; however, it really depends on the dog not size or weight.
How Can CBD Oil Benefit My Dog?
As with the claims that CDB Oil can benefit humans, it has been said and many people believe that the benefits from using CBD oil for dogs can consist of a very long list of health conditions that your dog may suffer from. I know using with my dogs has really made a difference in their quality of life.
CBD Oil is said to be an anti-inflammatory, which would be helpful in many types of situations where you dog may be in pain, and may eliminate or reduce the prescription drugs and all their side effects they may cause.
I have listed many of the claimed remedies for your convenience and for you to see if one of these symptoms is something that you are dealing with and if this just might help your fur baby.

Is It Legal?
CBD Oil is legal in all 50 states by federal law, and can be legally purchased on-line; however, some states are still trying to decide if they want to veto what the federal government has legalized, with the rise in popularity I don’t see this being a problem any longer.
A few states were trying to point out that THC is illegal in any percentage and due to the minimal amount, .03% of THC or less, residue that may remain in the CBD Oil, they want to make it illegal, and are claiming due to these laws of the state it would be considered as illegal. Now with the new laws put into effect this last year CBD made from industrial hemp is completely legal.
Many of the starving farmers in states not allowed to produce hemp are pushing to be able to grow industrial hemp. This would help the farmer cover to make up from all the losses, due to Mother Nature’s impact on their crops. If the farmers can push this through it would allow the farmers to plant more crops and be able to reap the profits that many of the other farmers have seen here in the US. It does seem; however, more states are starting to adopt and accept industrial hemp and willing to left farmers reap the benefits.
CBD and Dogs? – You Will Have To Decide
I hope I have answered any questions that you may have when it comes down to CBD and Dogs. Basically, you, as the dog owner, will have to make the ultimate decision for your own dog; however, with more and more vets coming on board and understanding more of the benefits that CBD may contribute to our furry friends, we may see that this may be the answer to many health problems with out dogs.
Divulging in the research it sounds to me like CBD Oil could be very beneficial to our furry friends as well as humans. I know my dogs are reaping the benefits and I can see how it has changed their lives. With the new laws in place, making that decision for CBD and Dogs is really up to you, the dog owner, to decide if you want your dog to reap the possible benefits of CBD Oil, it does seem the vets are jumping on board.

Hello Dena,
I think this is an excellent post that answers questions that any dog owner would want to know about whether they should give CBD to their dog.
I am glad that you spent a good amount of time discussing the issue of dosage. As I am doing my own research on CBD oil, the issue of the right dosage keeps coming up.
Just like with people, small dosages are recommended as a start. Unlike in the case of people where the most that can happen from overuse is perhaps a case of ‘dry mouth’. If is anything more they can deal with it.
The side effects on dogs may be more concerning for a dog owner. The fury friend isn’t able to express the full extent that the side effect may be having on him or her. So you’re right. Every dog owner has to make a decision they feel comfortable with.
Thanks for leaving a comment and I am glad you feel that I was able to answer questions that dog owners would want to know. I always work to give everyone the most information possible in my articles so that everyone can benefit, especially our furry friends.
Dosage can be a bit complicated when it comes to CBD Oil, starting out low and slow is the best option as it tends to work differently for everyone, leading to different serving sizes for your pets. CBD Oil is perfectly safe for dogs and I started mine out on a just a couple of drops and then added more as I went along keeping a good eye on them to make sure it was not making them extra tired and causing them to sleep more. I have seen less anxiety in the dogs especially around the 4th of July holiday and the older dogs are getting around much better by using the CBD Oil with them, it really works. I take it myself and have had wonderful results.
I feel that giving my older dogs the CBD Oil it creates a much better quality of life for them.
HI Dena,
Thanks for researching this very confusing and controversial topic. CBD oil is illegal in my country and so I am always curious to see how other countries are tackling this divisive issue. I can see that by making it legal for humans, then secondary users such as dogs can now get access to this oil.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Glenys, Thanks for leaving a comment and I hate that CBD Oil is not legal in your country, hopefully they will legalize it soon so you too can reap the benefits of CBD. I know that here in the states it has been an ongoing controversial issue, but is now starting to gain respect. It is legal here in all 50 states and 40 other countries so hopefully you will be one of those other countries soon.
Thanks again for your comment and helping to keep our dogs healthy, happy and well-adjusted.
This is a very interesting article with some good information on CBD oil, I have heard very good things about this oil and some side-effects which you might experience. What would I look for as side-effects when giving this to my dog, I will start with very small doses at first, I am hoping this will help my poor dog’s itching and scratching despite he has no fleas. I am sure you will let us know if you find any side-effects from this oil for dogs.
Jeff
Thanks for adding a comment and you have a very important concern that I am sure many people are wanting to know.
The CBD Oil I use for my dogs contains no THC, which I feel is a better choice for my dogs as long as you get it from a reputable company like I do. The CBD Oil without the THC has virtually no side effects, especially if you start them low and slow. The only thing you might find is they sleep more, which is also a side effect in humans if the are taking to much, if this happens it is better to cut way back or wait a few days and start them over again with a smaller amount of the supplement. In rare instances and most generally if you are using a brand that contains slight amounts of THC you might find that you dog may be disoriented, hyper, vomit or excessive sleeping. Again if this happens then they are receiving too much of the supplement and you need to take them off it, wait a few days and then start out with a very small amount.
None of my dogs have ever had any side effects and I have never encountered anyone else that has ever had a issue.
Thanks again for posting your concern and I hope I have resolved any aprehension that you may have giving CBD Oil to your fur baby.
I have heard about CBD oil, and the many benefits it has for humans. And I am glad to hear it has the same or more benefits for our doggy friends.
Just like for humans, dosage is one of the things to be careful about. You are right that a dose for a chihuahua cannot be the same for a mastiff. Even for humans, dosage for same sized human can be different from one person to another.
My only wish now is that CBD oil will be legal and allowed in Singapore.
Thanks for leaving a comment, I always enjoy reading what my readers post.
CBD Oil is really great for our dogs and people too; however, can cause headaches or dizziness if you take to much too fast, so it really is better to start low and slow and build up the amount you take as you go.
I am sorry to hear that it is not legal in Singapore, the CBD Oil that I recommend has no THC, which is normally the illegal factor. Hopefully they will get on board soon.
I am definitely going to try this. My little dog, Lola, has skin allergies and after reading your articles, I think this would be an excellent option! Thanks for sharing this helpful information.
I am delighted that you left a comment and want to try out the CBD Oil for your little Lola. I feel it will really help keep the allergies down and make her so much more comfortable. Allergies can be quite a nuisance for dogs as they get real itchy. You might also try putting a little coconut oil on any irritated areas that she might have with a couple drops of the CBD oil and that should help a lot. Click here to order CBD Oil or click the link above and it will take you to the CBD Oil that I use for me and my dogs.
Thanks again for the comment and if ever you have any questions I would love to help keep your fur baby healthy, happy and well-adjusted.
