Hi Wood Hound Mama! I’m Tilly, and really bad things happened to me for ten years. Now I’m with a lady who feeds me regularly (yea!) and takes me on walks. But I’m still sad and scared most of the time. I’m supposed to be getting a sister soon to help with that. My mom loves your advice, and is trying your stuff, especially the coconut doggie cookies. Any advice on helping very sad, scared bassets?

Hello Tilly, and Welcome to The Wood Hound! I am so happy that you left a comment and would love to help.

I hate to hear that you had a rough life as all dogs deserve good lives. I am so sorry you are sad and scared, sounds like things are really looking up for you. I am really glad that you have a new mommy now and getting a new sister would be an excellent choice, as dogs are pack animals, and feel more comfortable among other dogs.

The best advice I can give your mom is give you lots of love, if you are receptive of that, and it is really great that your mom is taking you on walks, that is a good bonding method for you and your mom. Tell your mom another good technique for bonding is while she is petting you, to look directly in your eyes while talking to you softly, that should also help calm you and help you know you are loved.

I bet you will like the coconut doggie cookies as most bassets love treats and coconut oil is awesome for dogs. Another recommendation I can give is trying out the CBD Oil as it is known to help with anxiety, I know I have a couple of fur babies here at The Wood Hound that gets all anxious about fireworks and I gave them the CBD Oil and it really helped this year. Click here for my article on CBD and Dogs.

I would love for you to join my Friends Of The Wood Hound by adding your email to the green box and submit a picture so I can post you on this page with my other friends.

I want to thank you again for your comment and if you or your mom has any other questions please feel free to ask, I would love to help make all our friends healthy, happy and well-adjusted.

Hi my name is lux! I am 6 years old and I like to be lazy! I sleep a lot and like to cuddle with my dad mom and best friend zach!I like to play while laying down and I love wa wa(water). I bark to get wawa and let you know I need it but don’t you dare get my nose wet. I hate my nose getting wet so I put it on the side of my water bowl so I can drink! I am very soft and my mom and friends call me luxifer!

Hello Lux and Welcome! Thanks so much for being a Friend of The Wood Hound and leaving a comment. I appreciate you telling us all a little about yourself as I love to learn more about our friends and I am sure everyone who visits loves reading your stories. I especially love the story about not getting your nose wet that is just too funny. Most Basset Hounds I know don’t care, nose and ears come out of the water bowl soaked. It sounds like you have a wonderful mom, dad and friends.

Hi, my name is Droopy. I am 5 years old and I adopted a really nice, caring and loveable family last November, the day before Thanksgiving to be exact. It was a very thankful holiday for sure. I have 3 cat siblings who I sometimes like to chase. I even get to sleep in a nice, warm house in a really comfy dog bed. I love to play chase and get plenty of belly rubs. It was different having rules to follow inside the house but I am adjusting well. I get plenty of smoochins’ also from my family!! I like to eat crushed ice out of the fridge and love cubes of cheese! 🐾💕🐶

Hi, Droopy so glad you became friends with The Wood Hound and love your story. I love learning about our friends here at The Wood Hound.

I am so glad you had the chance to adopt a really great family and glad to hear you are doing well, right before Thanksgiving I bet that was a plus, turkey dinner and all the fixins. I heard you had been on the streets and really skinny, looks like you are doing great and adjusting well to family life. It sounds like you are really spoiled now with the nice comfy bed and belly rubs, I bet that is a big change for you, and I am so happy you found a loving family. All dogs deserve a good life as they make great companions, loving and loyal.

Chasing your cat siblings might not be the best choice, but I bet it is a lot of fun for you, my fur babies chase anything that comes in our yard.

Thanks again for becoming a friend of The Wood Hound and I am really glad you are here. I hope you enjoy your ice and cheese, my dogs think those are special treats too.

I love the faces of the wood hounds! I am not an owner, just an admirer. A friend from afar 🙂 Always enjoy coming to the site as there is much to learn about them and more for dog lovers like me. Enjoy learning more about this fascinating breed as well. The Basset is the type of Dog my Mother grew up raising. She adores them. I look forward to learning more about yours and your wood hound friends.

Thanks Christina, I am so glad you enjoy this site as I am always trying to help dog owners anyway I can.
I really enjoy learning where everyone is from so I created the Friends of The Wood Hound so I can find out where everyone that is visiting is from and for others to know as well. If your mother has owned a basset hound she knows the love and enjoyment they bring to their owners. I would like for you and everyone to know the Friends of The Wood Hound is not just for basset hounds and treeing walker coonhounds but any dog that you might have and I would love to put their picture here as well. To submit a picture please fill out the form above to join my site and then I will send information to you on how to submit your photo.

Thanks again and I am really glad you enjoy this site.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the comment and I am glad you enjoyed my photos.

The pictures on this page are of Friends of The Wood Hound to showcase many of our different friends all over the world. I always enjoy meeting new hound lovers and making new friends.

Now on to my hound family we have 3 basset hounds and 4 treeing walker coonhounds that do keep us very busy. Managing the hound family takes lots of love, patients and dedication to the hounds. With our love of hounds it is really easy to manage them all; however, we do have issues on who is going to get mommy’s or daddy’s attention first so we have to make sure they all get the attention they need. I also have an awesome sister-n-law that is an avid hound lover that helps out where ever she can. While trying to write my articles for this website can be challenging at times as I find it is write a few words, dog out, write a few more words, dog in, over and over again, as they will never go in and out all together. Then of course you have the dog food, treats, and trips to the vet, which we have mastered throughout the years.

Our bunch of hounds can be a lot of work, and we love each of them dearly, would not change it for the world. This is one reason I am working so hard to make this the best website for hounds as I possibly can by utilizing my experience with the hounds, in hope that one day, with every ones support here at The Wood Hound, I can become a stay at home dog mom and have much more time to spend with wagging tails and cold noses.

Thanks again for your comment and I hope this helps you understand with a lot of love and patients you can accomplish and maintain a large hound family. To keep up-to-date with all new posts for this website please make sure to subscribe to my email and you will get the latest information in your email box as it comes available.
