Introduction to the Hounds of The Wood Hound
Each with their own personality!
The Treeing Walker Coonhounds are wonderful companions and I love them dearly, but then there is the Basset Hounds, funny little clowns with floppy ears, personality galore and a huge heart. Oh! and the eyes that can just turn you to jelly.
I have seven fur babies, 3 basset hounds and 4 treeing walker coonhounds.
Meet The Basset Hounds
Silly Priscilla Sue – Priscilla is oldest and our alpha dog she keeps all the other dogs in line, when one of the other dogs get out of line you will hear this grumble coming from the alpha dog. If a human is involved she is the sweetest ever and loves her humans always wanting belly rubs.
Abby – Abby is the baby she is so adorable and loving, of course being a basset she is our biggest clown, and always into something. Oh! and sky raisins she loves chasing those sky raisins.
Olivia – Olivia is the newest member of our family and we are still learning her personality. So far she is a very loving baby and definitely a food hound the minute you crinkle a wrapper she is there ready for anything that you might drop.
Meet The Treeing Walker Coonhounds
Tracker – Tracker is our only male dog and is second to the oldest he thinks this is his territory and can be quite obstinate. He has to get his point across after all the only male living in a female world.
Sassy – Sassy is our mommy dog, she is always right there to make sure all the other hounds are taken care of properly. Sassy has been know to clean eyes and ears of her other siblings, oh and don’t forget if they have something on their mouth she will clean it as well.
Missy – Missy is a love baby, she enjoys giving and receiving hugs from her humans and always content to be in someones lap.
Dixie – Dixie is energetic and definitely a people hound, always ready to greet anyone that come into her home, still working on trying to keep her from jumping on people when they come in.
I rescued a tree walker coonhound. Your site gave me a lot of info on the breed. My 5 yr old Hoksila aka Hokey. Is not only an escape artist but a big wonderful cuddle buddy. He already has a record with the
local police due to his escape ability. Is he too old to train?
Hello to all the sweeties! They are so cute and adorable! And I love how you describe each of their personalities. It is so true. Our fur friends are intelligent beings with souls. And each have their own behavior and character.
So fun and good to read about each of them. Belly rubs for all! 🙂
Thanks for visiting and meeting the hounds they really do all have different personalities each of them very special and unique. They all thank you for the belly rubs, all of them enjoy that.
My Mom has always had a great love for Basset hounds. She has often told a story about one she had when she was a little girl. She always wanted another but she never did. Makes me sad for her now. Reading your dog’s fantastic stories. Mothers day is right around the corner, I have some serious thoughts!! Maybe it is time again.
I am so glad you had a chance to visit the hounds. Basset Hounds really are a unique breed, so loving and so dedicated to their humans, they make wonderful companions. I would recommend a new Basset Hound for your mom as many times a bond with a basset is forever. Of course who couldn’t look into a basset hound eyes and just melt. Basset Hounds are extremely good for older people as they are fairly laid back; however, they are generally a heavier dog with an average weight of 40-60 lbs, so lifting may become an issue if your mother is older. There are many items out on the market such as ramps and stairs that can help assist with this.
If your mother owned a Basset Hound once, as a Basset owner, I can understand the longing for another and think it would be a great gift for Mothers day.
You have quite a crew there. I remember when I had 5 dogs and 2 cats. They do each have their own personalities, don’t they?
My son had a Walker hound and I used to babysit for her. Her name was Sassy too. She was the sweetest thing but could trick you and was an escape artist.
Thanks for stopping by my site and meeting the hounds. Animals really do have their own personality just as humans. Treeing Walker Coonhounds are very lovable dogs by nature; however, do tend to be escape artists at times. I remember Sassy when she was a small pup, we had a black iron vertical decorative fence and we checked that she could not get through. So what did she do? She checked out the situation tried to get through with no luck, as we watch her she backs up and takes a running dash at the fence and right through like it was nothing.
Thanks again for visiting my site and come back often as I am always posting new information to keep our furry love safe, secure and healthy.
