Flea Prevention
- If you find that you are not totally infested with fleas an easy way to get rid of a small population of fleas or prevention is simply adding it to your dogs bedding and in carpeting and letting them lay on the treated surfaces for a few days. After a few days have passed then bathe your dog and bedding to get rid of any dead fleas carcasses that may be lingering and repeat as needed.
- If using for prevention it is safe to reapply weekly or biweekly depending on the flea population and time of year. Normally fleas are only a problem in the summer months.
If you find you are dealing with an all out war on fleas I suggest you follow the regiment below:

- Washing dogs bedding should be done separately from other clothes; however, after one washing the powder washes away easily and is not an issue till reapplied.

How To Feed Diatomaceous Earth To Your Dog
There are a few different ways of feeding Diatomaceous Earth to your dog depending on what type of food you feed your dog.
Wet food is the easiest type of food as you simply just use the recommended dosage and mix with the food and feed your dog.
Dry Food there are a couple of different methods for applying to dry food depending on how you feed your dog. In my case with multiple dogs and we actually keep food down all the time with a self feeder I like the first method as I can treat the whole bag before adding it to the feeder(For dogs that over eat or on a diet this is not a recommended feeding option).
Here comes the math figure out how many serving are in your bag of dog food for your size of dog and then calculate that by the serving size of Diatomaceous Earth for the weight of your dog and mix well. Keep note of your calculations so you can then add it to each bag of food in the future. This also keep other insects from making a home in your dogs food as it will kill them off.
Your can feed Diatomaceous Earth by mixing in a quarter cup of water and mixing it throughout the food to evenly distribute before offering food to you furry friend this can also be used just by adding to each bowl of food and making sure you coat all the food.

When wrapping up my research I find that Diatomaceous Earth seems to be potentially safe for dogs with more healthy benefits both internally and externally and a great alternative to more chemical laden products.
I am excited about the potential of Diatomaceous Earth and plan to include it in my regimen of all healthy living for my dogs and would suggest other dog owners to consider it.

Hello
Your posts on Diatomaceous Earth is very interesting to me since I have a dog of my own who I love very much, I only feed him natural dog food ever since he was a pup. He seems in good health for being seven years old, I really believe it is from his diet since a pup.
I avoid using the flea and tick products on my dog any more than I have too, I don’t believe the chemicals are good for dogs.
I am going to give this Diatomaceous Earth a try, I thank you for introducing me and my dog to this product
Jeff
Hi Jeff, thanks for leaving a comment and you are so welcome.
I want to commend you for trying to keep an all natural dog as they only have a limited time on this earth and the healthier we can keep them the better chance of them living longer. I have heard people having great results with Diatomaceous Earth. The one thing to keep in mind, the fine powder can temporarily affect you and your dog while applying it so make sure to cover nose, mouth and eyes to not irritate yours or your dogs respiratory system.
Thanks again for leaving a comment and if you decide to try this out please bookmark this site and come back and let us know how it worked.
I have heard of Diatomaceous earth before but had no idea that there was such a wide range of uses for it. For instance, feeding it to your dog and deodorizing the home. Wow, I think I will be getting some. Thanks for letting me know about Diatomaceous earth.
Hi Cynthia, I am so glad you had a chance to stop by and check out my article on Diatomaceous Earth.
I am so glad I was able to enlighten you on some of the uses for Diatomaceous Earth and I really hope it helps in the future. Another great use is both in the garden and in the yard to help eliminate all those pesky parasites that are always eating our plants. Do make sure you are using food grade even in the garden as it is safe for humans as well. Just make sure to remember in any form of use to use protection for you nose, mouth, and eyes as it can cause iritation to the membranes due to it being a powder form.
I relly appreciate you leaving a comment, make sure you bookmark this site so you can come back as I am always updating and if you find that this was helpful let me know how Diatomaceous Earth worked for you.
Thank you for sharing this information about DE for dogs. I like using natural products myself. I have used diatomaceous earth in my garden for years as a natural way to eliminate pests. it is good to know that it can also benefit my pets as well. Your product recommendations are the exact product I use as well. I know that they are very good. I am glad I found your article. it encourages me to give this a try!
Hi Christina, thanks for the comment and I am excited that I may have been able to show you another benefit for Diatomaceous Earth.
I have not found any negative reviews of Diatomaceous Earth through all my research and feel that it is a great product. The only caution I need to state is to make sure you or your dog does not inhale it as it can be extremely irritating to the respiratory track. I think it is great that you use the same product and I do not have to warn you to make sure it is the food grade as if you are using an all natural product for your garden, I am sure you want it safe to eat.
Thanks again, I hope you enjoy my site and remember to bookmark it as I am always adding new information that my be helpful with your fur baby.
Can it also be used on cats?
Thanks for the question, I enjoy communication and trying to help my readers.
This is a great question and Yes! In my extensive research I found it is also great for Cats and will help with the furry friends populations issues with fleas and ticks. With Cats I have not found anything about applying it directly to the cat externally but only to areas where the cat like to lounge around. I believe this is because it can be drying to the skin and cats are not fond of a bath. (unless you happen to have a cat that will take a bath) I have also found it is great to feed internally using as a de-wormer and has many other health benefits as it does for dogs.
Dosage for Cats:
2-6lbs – 1/2 tsp
7-13lbs – 1tsp
over 13lbs – 1 1/2 tsp
Hope this is helpful and again thanks for stopping by my site. Please remember to bookmark this site as I am alway adding information to keep our hounds happy and healthy and well adjusted .
