You are right of course Dena. One of the biggest obstacles pet owners face is what to do with their pets when they are on holidays? Lots and lots of places simply refuse to allow pets for a whole list of reasons. Boarding kennel prices in my part of the world can be around $300-$400 per week per animal, so paying a $20 per night or a $100 per week sounds like an absolute bargain. I am glad that there are even 5 star options available as well. I was just wondering what your favourite hotel to stay at is?
Thanks for leaving a comment, I really appreciate hearing from my readers.
It really is a big obstacle when trying to decide what to do with your pets while you are away or if you take them where do you stay. Boarding Kennels can be quite pricey and even if the hotel charges a small fee it is well worth taking your furry friend along.
Normally I stay at Motel 6 and have had good luck with them; however, the next time I need to get a hotel room I am thinking about trying out La Quinta as people have found them to be really good as well.
What a great read! I had no idea so many hotel chains now allow our beloved pets! Some of this was probably due to Oprah. I remember her saying once she would never stay at a hotel that wouldn’t take her dogs! Honestly I haven’t taken a vacation in a long time because I don’t think I could sleep without my little Lola next to me! And I know how miserable she would be without me. But now you’ve given me some options! Thanks for taking such time to research this and you have made a lot of fur babies happy!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I am trilled that I was able to provide you some insight on hotels that allow dogs. I am not sure if it was Oprah that started the trend of hotels allowing dogs or dog owners demanding that dogs be allowed, either way there are many hotel chains that are catering to our furry friends.
I understand not wanting to take a vacation due to leaving your dog, I find it is hard on them and I miss them terribly when I am away. I know when I go out of town I have to take Priscilla with me as she is not used to being away from me and like yours Priscilla sleeps with me every night. I am so glad I was able to provide you with different options and now you have a chance to take, what I am sure is a much needed vacation.
Thanks again for leaving a comment and I enjoy helping people and providing information to keep our dogs healthy, happy and well-adjusted.
This is a great list of hotels that allow pets. I have used Comfort Inn and La Quinta when I have traveled with my dog. I was really impressed with La Quinta. They made sure our dog was welcomed.
Thanks for a great list and what to expect from the hotel chains.
Hi Cynthia, Thanks so much for leaving a comment and review for both Comfort Inn and La Quinta.
It is great news that both hotel chains made you and your dogs feel welcome and it sounds like La Quinta came out on top. According to my research La Quinta is supposed to be one of the best dog friendly hotel chains and they do not charge extra for you furry friend to stay, which is always a plus. La Quinta also offers dog friendly accommodations in all hotels, unless state or local ordinance prohibits dogs in hotels.Comfort Inn may have a pet deposit depending on the location, which may vary.
Thanks again for letting us know about your experience it is really good to know that these hotels are truly dog friendly. If you enjoy the information on this site please bookmark and come back often as I am always new articles to help you keep our fur babies healthy, happy and well-adjusted.
It’s so good to know that more and more hotels are opening their doors to our furry friends! In the past, when I had a doggy buddy, the saddest part is leaving her with my family members while I go for a vacation. Even overseas, I will think of her and wonder if she is all right?
She has sadly left for better pastures due to old age. I hope she is well. Gosh, getting a little teary here remembering her.
Still, it is good to know there are hotels that will host our doggy friends. When I have a new doggy friend, I will patronize these hotels.
Thank you for sharing this helpful information.
Hello Timotheous,
Thanks so much for the comment as my heart goes out to you knowing how hard it is to loose one of our fur babies, unfortunately they are only given to us for a short time so we have to make the best of that time we have with them. I am sure she is having the time of her life after crossing the rainbow bridge and running and playing with all the other dogs in the grassy fields there.
It is wonderful that I have helped you to know that when you get your next fur baby that you can spend time even when traveling. I hope that is an extra burden lifted off your shoulders when considering a new dog as there are many out there needing great loving homes.
Thanks again for your comment and remember to bookmark my site as I am always adding new information to keep our fur babies happy, healthy and well-adjusted.
Hello Dog Mom,
This post is amazingly helpful for all us dog owners and lovers everywhere, I often put off traveling because I don’t have the heart to stick my dog in a kennel while I am out having fun, you have solved that problem for me. I never knew there were so many hotel options for dogs before reading your post, I can now travel with my dog and we both can enjoy a vacation
Jeff
Hi Jeff, so glad you have connected and thank you for the gracious compliment.
I am so glad this has helped you know that you can take a vacation or travel and still have your fur baby by your side. With so many different options one is sure to fit in your budget and I am sure your dog would love vacation too.
It is hard to justify putting them in a boarding kennel while you are out having fun. I know we always struggle when we travel as there is no way we could take all seven with us as we just do not have enough hands to control them all at once. When we travel we have to go one at a time or we happen to be fortunate enough to have a family member that will come take care of the ones we have to leave behind.
Thanks again for your comment and I am so glad I was able to solve your problem. Happy Vacationing!
Hello Dena,
I read your post with particular interest because I have a friend who is in the insurance business, and often she has to advise dog owners on what to do when disaster strikes in terms of keeping their dogs safe. She has also advised them on hotels that not only allow your dog but have amenities like pet sitting and welcome baskets for dogs. The most interesting thing we spoke about, however, was Yosemite and the Grand canyon being the most friendly pet-friendly national Parks. Have you heard of something like that? I haven’t been to either park and never knew that they had a reputation for catering to dog owners.
That said, I think your post is extremely informative and answers a lot of questions I had about what one does when traveling with a dog. I think that since a lot of people are loyal to certain hotel chains the post is especially useful by addressing the policies of all the well known chains. Great job.
Thabo
Thanks so much for you comment and the information you have provided here.
There really are many hotels out there that cater to dogs especially in disaster situations. I think the hotels are realizing that dogs are family too and they should have accommodations for our furry friends.
Yosemite and the Grand Canyon are wonderful places to visit and yes many of the national parks are dog friendly as long as you adhere to the regulations set by the individual park. Depending on the nature of the national park, the first obligation is to make sure everyone is safe and any animals in the park are safe as well, including our furry friends.
Your post has been inspiring to me and it looks like I should check into some of the national parks a little deeper and create a new article outlining visiting nation parks with out dogs.

I really like that Red Roof offers a discount. We like staying there. I have enjoyed many of their hotels. Sadly though. We have two dogs 🙁 I see there policy only allows for one. When we take our trip with the doggies coming up I will have to consider a different one. Do you have one that you recommend for multiple dogs that you have used?
Thanks so much for leaving a comment and I hate that the Red Roof only allows one dog.
I do know that the LaQuinta allows two dogs and they do not have a fee or deposit for having fur babies as guests in their hotel. One of my favorites is the Residence Inn by Marriott as they have more like apartment type suites and roomier than an average hotel room; however, you would want to check to make sure that one available in the area you are traveling will take two dogs. With two dogs the Residence Inn might be a better option as there is more space for them to stretch out and get comfortable and for the humans staying, they have a great hot breakfast.
I would love for you to come back to my website and let me know what hotel you decided on and what your experience was with the hotel. Happy traveling!
Hi Dena,
La Quinta is right beside the red roof where we normally stay when we go up to NY. I gave them a call and they can accommodate the two dogs. We do not have definitive dates yet so I did not reserve but will let you know how it goes when I do. Thank you for the tips!
Hello Christina,
Thanks so much for reporting back that is awesome that you can get accommodations at LaQuinta in the same area and even right next door to the Red Roof where you normally stay. Staying in the same area is always nice as you know the area when you have been there before.
After your trip, it would be great if you could check back and let us know how everything went and if it was an enjoyable experience for you and your fur babies.
What a great idea to list companies that allow dogs as part of your hotel booking. When we go away we are constantly thinking “what will we do with the pets?” If we can take them on holidays for a few extra dollars per day that is so much nicer that paying “doggie accommodation” of hundreds of dollars per week. Thanks for the great tips.
Thanks for the comment, I really enjoy reading what people coming to my website think and really appreciate the compliment.
I strive to help out my readers any way I can and I am so happy my article provided the information that could help you take your fur babies with you on a holiday. I know boarding your dogs can get quite pricey and taking your fur babies along can definitely save you money. Many of the hotels charge a minimal fee and some do not charge at all.
I know our dogs are always happiest when they are with us so I try not to leave them too much. I have one that has major anxiety when I am away for too long, so generally I have to take her with me on trips.
Thanks again for the wonderful comment and if you find the information on this website helpful please bookmark the site and come back often as I am always adding new information.
