DOG HOLIDAYS IN May

April Showers do bring May Flowers and just in time for some great celebrations for the month of May. Spring is now in full bloom and the weather is much nicer so it makes it a great time to get outdoors and enjoy some activities just for you and your dog.

So if you are not too burnt out from all the celebrating in April, let’s discover what May has to offer our furry friends. To begin we might want to take a look at our month-long holidays with celebrations involving National Chip Your Pet Month or even Pet Cancer Awareness month.

This is the month that we celebrate Responsible Animal Guardians, Service Dog Eye Exams and last month the UK celebrated National Pet Month; however, in the US National Pet Month is the whole month of May.

There are a few week-long holiday celebrations that seem enticing like National Pet Week with a different theme each day,  a week to Be Kind To Animals, and don’t forget Puppy Mill Action Week.

So what does May have to offer in the way of daily holidays? You might start out with Purebred Dog Day, Maday For Mutts, or check out that special day just for Specially-abled Pets.

There is a great day in May that all pet parents should celebrate and that is Nation Disaster Preparedness Day, of course, this is the month to celebrate our human mothers and even those tiny little Chihuahuas and of course memorial day is celebrated the end of May.

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner so let’s take advantage of the nice weather and let the celebrations begin for those dog-friendly holidays during the month of May.  Make sure to check out the agenda below and find out more about each individual holiday you plan to celebrate.

It is a great time to walk your dog and enjoy the fresh air, play some catch, or lounge outside in the shade. whatever you plan during the month of May I hope you and your dogs have loads of fun.

I am excited this month and hope you are too. Let the dog holidays in May begin and start celebrating, ready, set, and go!

National Chip Your Pet Month – Is Your Dog Chipped?

Our pets are part of our family and if we lose them it can make for a heartbreaking experience. How can you provide an extra layer of security for your pet? Celebrate National Chip Your Pet Month!

What Is It – Many veterinarians, shelters, and foster homes know the importance of having your dog chipped. They want to share that information with you. May is a special month set aside to educate, promote, and help pet parents understand the importance of getting your pet microchipped.
Why Celebrate – We always try to keep our pets safe by providing safeguards to ensure our pet does not get away from us. You may have a fenced yard that provides security to keep your loving pet with you or always use a collar and leash when walking your dog.

These are all great safety measures, but what happens when your dog gets frightened and slips that collar or climbs over the fence to explore what is on the other side?

These scenarios are a great reason to celebrate National Chip Your Pet Month and add that extra layer of security to finding your pet safe and sound.

Microchipping your pet is as easy as taking your dog in for their vaccinations and is only the size of a piece of rice. The vet places the microchip in the loose skin between the shoulder blades in a non-invasive procedure to give you that extra peace of mind. Make sure to watch the video to see how it is done.

After the procedure, all that is left to do is register your dog with one of the national databases so that your pet’s information is readily available in case your pet is found.

How to celebrate – If you have not already had your pet microchipped the month of May is a great time to book that appointment with your vet and have the procedure completed.

If you have already had the procedure completed is your information accurate in the national database of your choice? It is always a good time to check your information for accuracy.

Here are a few of the national databases that you can register with:

https://www.akcreunite.org/

https://www.homeagain.com/membership-services.html

https://www.petchipregistry-us.info/pet_chip_registry

Do your part in sharing information about National Chip Your Pet Month by sharing on social media.

Hazards – So what happens if you do not chip your pet? In the tragic event that your pet gets away from you and ends up at a shelter, the shelter has no way of knowing who that pet belongs to. At this point, your pet would be put up for adoption instead of being safely returned to its loving family. This is why chipping your pet is almost a must and can provide peace of mind.
Gifts for dogs – Having your dog microchipped is a great gift for you and your dog. If you want to go a step further there are ID tags that you can purchase that have your dog’s microchip number on it for a little extra bling on their collars.
Annual Awareness Month

Pet Cancer Awareness Month – Working Together There Is Hope For A Cure.

Pet Cancer Awareness Month celebrated throughout the month of May is dedicated to helping to educate and find a cure for that dreadful disease that plagues many of the pet population today.

Pet Cancer Awareness Month
What is it – Blue Buffalo Foundation and PetCo Foundation joined forces back in 2010, to help support and fight the battle with cancer through helping to provide funding for research, testing and treatment to develop a cure and treatment procedures for our pets to help them live a longer and healthier life.

Why Celebrate – As a pet parent, cancer can be a devastating diagnosis, and one we are never ready to hear from our vets.

According to Pet Cancer Awareness Website, (PCA) Working together Blue Buffalo and PetCo have raised over 15 Million in revenue over their joint partnership in providing both research and helping families fight the battle of cancer in those loving and loyal pets.

They state that 6 million dogs and approximately the same amount of cats are diagnosed with this disease yearly, that is reason enough to help them in their campaign to help fight the battle for cancer in our furry friends.

How to celebrate – Celebrating this campaign can help not only research but can help those pet parents that may not be able to afford the cost of cancer treatments.

If you are not able to help through donations, you can always help by helping to spread the word through social media or even word of mouth so that everyone knows that May is Pet Cancer Awareness Month.

If you ever receive that bad news from the vet that your fur baby has cancer you may want to check into how this campaign can help you, read more about it at the Petco Foundation  website.

Hazards – Cancer is a life-threatening disease for our fur friends and very costly to battle for treatments to become cancer-free. Without a cure, this deadly disease will continue to rear its ugly head and take our loving pals from us.

Gifts for dogs – Give the gift of research or help that fur friend get through this horrible disease.
Annual Awareness Month

Responsible Animal Guardian Month – Do You Meet The Needs Of Your Dog?

Responsible Animal Guardian Month is all about meeting the needs of your animals that live with you and that have become part of your family.

National Responsible Animal Guardian Month

What Is It – In Defence of Animals (IDC) declared the month of  May as Responsible Animal Guardian Month. The IDC wants to bring awareness of the strong bond that can be achieved between an animal and their guardian and how responsible guardians should strive to not only give the respect these remarkable creatures deserve but also by meeting the needs both physically and mentally of the animals we share our lives with.

Why Celebrate – If you know me you know that I am a big advocate for pets as family members so celebrating Responsible Guardian Month for our household is a must.

Living our day to day lives with these remarkable creatures is very fulfilling and has many rewards. When your down they cheer you up, when you are sick they are right by your side, and they are always there when you just need a friend.

As many of us understand and know that being a responsible guardian not only consists of responsibility for the life and well-being of the animal we take into our home but the care and treatment of our wonderful furry friends throughout the years.

How to celebrate – Celebrating Responsible Pet Guardian Month starts with knowing what a responsible pet guardian is and what you might need to do to become the best ever animal guardian.

Let’s take a look and see what those responsibilities might entail:

  • When adopting an animal, know that it is for the life of the animal they are not disposable.
  • Provide positive training to help them follow directions and keep them from danger.
  • Provide proper nutrition and exercise to maintain health and stamina.
  • Maintain yearly wellness checks and keeping a good communication line open with your vet.
  • Spend time every day to show your commitment and love to your furry family member.

Being truly committed pet parents improves communication with your pet and also the bond that is built between an animal and a human. Make sure to share with your friends and help everyone to realize what responsible pet guardianship is all about and what they should do to improve their relationship with their animal friends.

Hazards – The biggest hazard I can think of when talking about responsible pet guardianship is when you do not spend the time it takes training and exercising your best bud they can get bored and make it hard on you to live with.  Without proper nutrition and vet visits your animal may not have the quality of life it deserves.
Gifts for dogs – Give them a big thank you for being in your life by providing that nutritional food and a healthy treat you know your dog loves. We know most dogs love food and this is a great month to start on a more nutritional way of eating.
Annual Awareness Month

National Service Dog Eye Examination Month – Is It Time For Your Dog To Get Glasses?

Is it time for that ocular screening to find out if your dog’s eyesight is still in optimal health. This is a great time to thank those service dogs and military dogs and working dogs for the service they provide every day.

National Service Dog Eye Examination Month
What Is It – May is dedicated to checking those service dogs by giving back to them with an ocular screening and an event sponsored by Epicur Pharma and the American Veterinary College of Ophthalmologists (AVCO) with many members and volunteers that schedule more than 8000 eye checks a year in the month of May for service and military dogs that are always taking care of their handlers.
Why Celebrate – The celebration begins with free screening for our Service Dogs and Military Dogs that do so much every day. They guide the blind so they can live productive lives and sniff out bombs for our military to keep them safe.

This event thanks much more than just our seeing-eye dogs and military dogs. They also pay tribute and provide services to working dogs such as police dogs and therapy dogs that provide so many different services and dogs that need the ability to have good sight to do their jobs well.

How to celebrate – GThe celebrations normally gets underway with registration throughout the month of April to get those appointments scheduled for those service and working animals to get their free eye exam. If you have a dog or even other animals that may qualify for this free service it may be worth checking into and get your appointment set for the month of May.

I think another way to celebrate is thinking about our dog’s health as getting regular eye exams can detect early issues that might occur and may save your dogs eyesight. Checking with your vet and seeing what they recommend may just be the perfect way to celebrate this dog holiday for your dog.

Hazards – Sometimes dog’s eyes may become compromised and if you do not have your vet check the eyes of your dog on a regular basis it might develop into your dog having issues with their eyesight. Check with your vet to see if an ocular exam might be right for your dog.
Gifts for dogs – Glasses might not be the perfect gift for your dog but if you plan to be in rugged territory where your dog’s site might be compromised a pair of goggles might be in store. Another great gift might just be that ocular checkup to make sure your furry friend’s site is still at its best.

National Pet Month – Do You Know The Benefits Of Having A Pet In Your Family?

The UK celebrated National Pet Month in April and now is the time for the US to jump on board for the celebration during the month of May. If you took advantage of last month’s celebration it is like a two-month celebration for our furry pals highlighting the joy and benefits of living with such awesome pets.

What is it – During the months of National Pet Month for the UK and US, we are reminded of responsible pet parenting, and how the companionship of our loving animals not only change our pet’s lives but how our furry friends benefit and contribute to our lives as well.
Why Celebrate – Those of us that are living with dogs know and understand many of the benefits of living with our furry friends and how they make our lives complete.

What better way to celebrate our dogs having a month-long celebration to brag about our dogs,  meet other pet parents, and share the love for our dogs with the world.

Let’s get started and find out how we can start celebrating National Pet Month and have some fun with our furry friends.

How to celebrate – There are many different days throughout the month of April and May to do just that, to name a few we see that we can celebrate our veterinarians, therapy animals, pet parents and even highlights on adoption.

Get on board with social media by posting lots of pictures of your furry pals and the fun they are having over the next couple of months.

Pack your pal up and go to that fun day organized by local charities, if you have any local, if not organize something to get pet parents together and socialize for a day. This can be a lot of fun for you and your furry friend.

This is a great time to get involved and thank our pet professionals for all they do and how they help us become better pet parents for our dogs.

Hazards – There is no harm in loving and sharing our dogs through the months of April and May so bring it on and have fun with it.
Gifts for dogs – Giving our dogs that special toy or that new bed is a great way to celebrate, of course, healthy treats are always a great choice according to our dogs. Maybe even matching shirts for you and your dog to wear on that special pet parent day.
Annual Week-Long Holiday

May 3rd – 9th

National Pet Week – Do You Know The Vital Elements To Providing A Life Time Of Love?

National Pet Week is always observed the first full week of May in celebration of the love and bond that we hold for our pets and for us as pet parents to provide lifelong health and happiness for our furry friends.

National Pet Week
What is it – Dating back to 1981 the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) along with the AVMA Auxiliary created National Pet Week. During this week Vets, Vet Techs, Schools, and communities come together to celebrate and host informational and fun events to help pet parents understand the importance of a life long bond, health, and happiness that pets deserve.
Why Celebrate – We all love our pets and celebrations so this is a great week to break out the party supplies and celebrate with our furry friends. While celebrating this week AVMA has created a different theme for each day of the week.

Here is what we can learn while celebrating our pets each day:

  • Sunday – Choose well: Commit for life
  • Monday – Socialize now: New doesn’t have to be scary
  • Tuesday – Nutrition and exercise matter
  • Wednesday – Love your pet? See your vet!
  • Thursday – Travel with care
  • Friday – Emergencies happen: Be prepared
  • Saturday – Plan for their care: Give them a lifetime of love

To find out more about the themes each day visit AVMA.

How to celebrate – As you can see this is a jam-packed week and a great week to celebrate. As we noted above there is something to learn every day of the week. Let’s celebrate by finding out more of what each day’s theme is all about and learning each day through National Pet Week.

Take the time this week to really show your pet how important they are in your family dynamics by taking them for a walk, providing nutritional meals, and making sure you are prepared for your furry friend in the case of an emergency.

As always share on social media and share those cool pics of your pets during this week to show how important they are in your life.

Hazards – Remember during the celebration this week to only feed your pet’s nutritional species-appropriate foods and snacks. Sometimes sneaking that little extra might not be good for your pet and cause them to fall ill.
Gifts for dogs – This week is a good week to go all out for the dog in your life. Get them one great gift like a new orthopedic bed, or get a bunch of new toys one for each day of the week. Either way, just show your dog they are loved and a cherished member of your family.
Annual Awareness Week

May 3rd – 9th

Be Kind to Animals Week – Are You Ready To Take The Pledge?

Be Kind To Animals Week celebrated annually the first full week on May is a campaign designed to teach all people, including children to be kind to all animals.

Be Kind To Animals Week
What is it – Dating back over 100 years ago in 1915, Animal Humane launched the oldest commemorative week celebrated in the US by creating a National Poster Contest for children and has celebrated with a week-long campaign every May.
Why Celebrate – Being kind to animals should go without saying; however, many times some people need to be reminded and children need to learn that animals are to love and bond with.

I believe every child should have that chance to bond and learn how to love and care for animals properly. This is not always the case and some parents do not understand that this teaches humanity and compassion for our loving animals.

This is a great reason to help share awareness and provide education to children to help them understand how to treat animals in the hope to have a lasting impact on the lives of children growing up today.

How to celebrate – During the week-long campaign, it is American Humane’s hope that everyone possible will take the pledge to be kind to animals not just during this week but 365 days of every year. If you want to take the pledge navigate over to American Humane.

Other ways you can celebrate this holiday is by adopting a shelter pet, committing to kindness 365 days a year, and showing your support on social media.

Hazards – Teaching children how to treat animals help them to grow up and understand compassion and humanity without this, these children may never know or understand therefore creating more abuse for our precious animals.
Gifts for dogs – A gift of kindness is an awesome way to celebrate this holiday with your dog.

May 4th – 10th

Puppy Mill Action Week – Give Them A Hand

This week is dedicated to stopping puppy mills and creating better lives for dogs that have had to live in horrific conditions, just so the owner can profit.

Puppy Mill Action Week
What is it – During the second week of May, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) created Puppy Mill Action Week to help educate people of the horrors of puppy mills, to get them on board to help shut down these mills and give these fur babies a better life.
Why Celebrate – We all hate seeing those pictures of dogs that are abused and living in horrific conditions associated with puppy mills. I ask myself, how can people be so cruel just to turn a buck?

I don’t want to go into the conditions too deeply as it turns my stomach, but these dogs are living in unhealthy conditions most the time in small kennels, having litter after litter without any medical care all for the profit of the owner.

Fortunately, and I applaud the people and organizations like HSUS out there striving to change laws and get puppy mills shut down to help give these precious babies a better life. There are ways you and I can help too, let’s find out more of what we can do during Puppy Mill Action Week.

How to celebrate – We understand that Puppy Mills contributes to poor conditions and abuse and neglect, but what can we do to help? That is where celebrating Puppy Mill Action Week can help to educate you and help you to understand what we can do to help get these puppy mills shut down and rescue these fur babies from a lifetime of abuse and neglect.

Do Not buy puppies from pet stores – Help break the pet stores that sell puppies, do not buy from stores, that sell puppies and support stores that help with adoption for shelter dog projects.

Don’t buy puppies online – Puppy mills run ads online and also creep into Craigslist and many other online outlets. Get to know the breeder if you choose to buy a new puppy directly from the breeder, know the conditions in which the puppies and mothers are kept.

Be an advocate – Get the word out about puppy mills, many people still do not understand that the cute puppy in the window most likely came from a puppy mill. This can be very daunting to these new pet parents when they find they have purchased a sick puppy and now have to invest in all the medical needs this new fur baby will entail.

Change the laws – Write your legislature and become of voice for ending puppy mills in your state.

Share information – This helps to get the word out and helps educate others of the shocking truth about puppy mills and how these poor dogs live throughout their lives, sometimes never seeing the light of day or ever walking on grass.

Hazards – Without everyone pulling together puppy mills will be allowed to continue and more dogs will continue to suffer living in bad conditions without proper nutrition or medical care.
Gifts for dogs – Kiss your sweet pup and give him a nutritious treat. Make sure to be a voice in the fight for puppy mills.

National Purebred Dog Day – How To Cherish And Preserve The Ancestory Of The Purebred Dog?

Dogs are part of our history dating back centuries and were bred for many different traits. May 1st is a day designated just for purebred dogs and why they are important in our lives.

National Purebred Dog Day
What is it – In 2013, dog lover and writer Susi Szeremy set out to create the first celebration of National Purebred Dog Day (NPDD) on May 1st to recognize the heritage, diversity, and predictability related to a purebred dog.

With the endorsement of the American Kennel Club, (AKC) many states are jumping on board to recognize this day to give tribute to our 400 dog breeds that exist today and to give a voice to those breeds that may be at risk of vanishing forever.

Why Celebrate –  Through irresponsible dog breeding it is possible that we will lose sight of many of the dog breeds that have been in existence for centuries and become a huge part of not only our culture but history.

Many of our purebred dogs have helped out humans for many years and possess many different desirable traits that are invaluable to our lives and communities. Some of these consist of tracking, hunting, herding, protection, and guiding.

According to the NPDD, many dogs would not find themselves in shelters or needing new homes if the prospective dog parent would spend the time to research and educate themselves in the bred they are pursuing. Another consideration is obtaining your new family member from a reputable breeder as they will be able to help you understand exactly the traits and history of the specific breed.

How to celebrate – Celebrating National Purebred Dog Day can be a lot of fun for you and your furry friend. You might be wondering what you can do to celebrate? One of the best ways is to post a picture of your purebred dog on social media with hashtag #NPDD.

One thing that might also be a great tribute to our purebred dogs is posting one thing about the breed of your dog so others will know what they can expect from your specific breed.

Hazards – Without preserving our purebred breeds they will vanish and we will lose the culture and the history that the specific breed brings to our lives.
Gifts for dogs – I would think that a great new toy or even a new collar might be a great gift for your dog to help celebrate this day and commemorate your purebred.

May 3rd

Mayday for Mutts – Time To Celebrate Mutts?

There are many different holidays as we go through the month and the first Sunday of May is dedicated to our loving Mutts.

May Day For Mutts
What is it –  From what I found Mayday for Mutts was created back in 2000 by the author of Unforgettable Mutts: Pure of Heart Not of Breed in the hope for people to recognize that mutts need homes too and to promote the adoption of dogs living in shelters, according to an article published March 3, 2000, on goodnewsforpets.com. They also added senior dogs and handicapped dogs as many times it is hard to find good homes for these dogs as well.
Why Celebrate –  Many of us are all lovers of dogs no matter what breed and understand that even our mutts that end up dropped off the shelter due to no one wanting them or picked up out of the streets need homes too.

These dogs long for loving families just like any others and deserve to have a great life like any other dog, which makes this a great day to celebrate.

How to celebrate – If you are thinking about adding a new dog to your family adopting from a shelter might be a great way to celebrate Mayday for Mutts. If you already have a mutt as part of your family make sure to snap that picture of your dog and post in social media to share the love of your dog with others.

Another great way to celebrate is to let your mutt know that they are special and very much loved and part of the family. You might want to strike up your own celebration just for your fur baby.

Hazards – Mutts, senior dogs, and dogs with disabilities are many times overlooked when families go to shelters to pick out that new family member, leaving these lovable pets remaining as shelter dogs and never having a loving family to call their own.
Gifts for dogs – A great gift is taking one of these lost souls home and providing the love and companionship every dog deserves.

May 3rd

National Specially-abled Pets Day – The Celebration Of Special Heroic Animals?

Do you share your home with one of these heroes? May 3rd is recognized both nationally and internationally for those pets that have had to adapt to some type of disability.

What is it – In 2006 Colleen Paige, animal welfare advocate and creator of several holidays just for our pets, created National Specially-abled Pets Day on May 3rd and celebrated annually to recognize those pets with special needs and to encourage the education and adoption of these fearless pets.
Why Celebrate –  So many times these specially-abled pets go without any recognition for the heroism that they achieve throughout their lives. Pets are generally very adaptable and normally are able to live relatively normal lives even with a disability. If you have one of these heroes in your family I commend you for your dedication to such truly amazing pets.
How to celebrate – If you share your home with one of these special heroes, May 3rd is the perfect time to let them know how special they are by spending a little extra time with them on their special day. You can even throw a virtual party by sharing pictures and letting everyone know how great they are.

If you are considering adoption specially-abled pets need homes and lots of love and a family to call their own. Invite them to your family and reap the benefits of the unconditional love they will give to you throughout their lives.

Hazards – Many of these heroes go without the love they deserve and a family to call their own after being discarded due to people not understanding or not educating themselves on how wonderful these pets truly are.
Gifts for dogs – Give the gift of family to a specially-abled pet or if you already have one in your life let them know how much they mean to you or even get them that special aid that will help them with finding even more independence.

National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day – Be Smart. Be Prepared.

Are you prepared for a disaster/crisis/emergency? Celebrated annually, the second Saturday in April is always National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day. Let’s get prepared!

National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day
What is it – It looks like with plenty of digging I have tracked down the National Emergency Animal Disaster Preparedness day recognized by FEMA in 2010 and celebrated the second Saturday of May. FEMA wants people to take the initiative by including their animals in a disaster plan and taking them with them if a disaster happens.
Why Celebrate –  There are many different types of disasters to include tornados, hurricanes, fire, flood, and yes in 2020 we can add viruses to that list. Many animals have been left behind when disaster strikes putting these animals at risk and in danger, possibly losing their lives.

Do you what you will do with your animals in case of a disaster/crisis/emergency? It is best to be prepared now before you need it than when it is too late. Remember to, Be Smart. Be Prepared. Get your disaster/crisis/emergency kit together. I have put together a pdf printable download with the information you need to get prepared, just click the button below and it will be sent to your inbox right away.

How to celebrate – The best way to celebrate this awareness day to keep your animals safe and secure is to get prepared, have a plan, and always make sure the information stays up-to-date. Make sure to share this information with others so they can be prepared too.
Hazards – If disaster strikes and you are not prepared it could end up putting not only your animals in danger but humans too. Make sure you are ready.
Gifts for dogs – If you are wondering what to get your dog a fully stocked first aid kit would be ideal. Need to know what to put in it? Download your free Disaster/Crisis/Emergency Kit Now!

Mother’s Day – Human

Most people think of Mother’s Day as a human holiday and yes it is recognized for our children to pay tribute to their mothers.

On this day many times, I know in my family we shower mom with gifts and spend the day with our moms to show them how much we care and that we love them and appreciate all they have done for us throughout the years.

As dog moms why not celebrate this day with our dogs as well. Afterall they love us unconditionally and rely on us for nutrition, shelter, and medical care. I feel it is only right to include our four-legged kids too.

International Chihuahua Appreciation Day – If You Share Your Home With A Chihuahua Today Is Your Day?

This is a fun holiday for Chihuahua lovers across the globe to come together and appreciate their Chihuahuas.

What is it – Chihuahuas are a fun little breed of dog and International Chihuahua day was created by Nadia Alterio, a known lover of Chihuahuas and celebrates with fellow Chihuahua lovers worldwide on the 14th of May annually. May 14th is a special day as it marks the birthday of Nadia’s beloved Chihuahua named Teaka.
Why Celebrate – If you share your home with a Chihuahua you know exactly how much you appreciate that little breed. Each year Chihuahua lovers have been gathering together from all over the world to recognize, celebrate, and appreciate this tiny little breed.
How to celebrate – We all love our dogs no matter how big or small, the Chihuahua is the tiniest of them all so why not celebrate a day just for them.

Post on Social Media to share your love of Chihuahuas or even join their photo contest that ChiChi and Me holds each year. If you want to enter here is the linkNo matter how you celebrate enjoy the time with your furry friend.

Hazards – I tried to figure out a hazard for this day and the only one that comes to mind, and I am sure it has something to do with all my dogs weighing in over 45 pounds is watch your step for those tiny little four-legged friends.
Gifts for dogs –  It is time to show off those cute little fur babies by getting them those new duds to strut their tiny stuff on a day just for Chihuahuas.

Dog Holidays In May Wrap Up

I think May is probably my favorite time of year with the flowers all in bloom and the sunlight trickling through the leaves of the trees, everything is just beautiful this time of year. I know it really makes me excited to get the celebrations underway for the month of May. I bet you are excited too!

Summer is right around the corner and the weather is great so celebrating will be a lot of fun this month with our dogs. What month-long holidays do you plan to celebrate? I am sure your dog would love to celebrate them all, take some time to microchip your dog, and read up on the signs of cancer. Get on board with National Pet Month and prove to your dog your the best guardian of all and don’t forget those eye exams for the service dogs.

I feel National Pet Week will be a lot of fun with theme filled days, take the pledge to be kind to animals not just for a week but 365 days a year and do what you can to help close down those puppy mills.

We all love dogs so celebrating purebred, mutts and specially-abled pets will be a lot of fun for you and your dog, don’t forget to be prepared during a disaster and yes, you can celebrate Mother’s Day with your dogs. If you have a Chihuahua there is a special day just for you too.

The Wood Hound wants to wish everyone a fun-filled month of May and lots of doggie snuggles.
