Are you ready to book your flight but first need to find out more about American Airline Traveling Pets? After some extensive research I have found that American Airline Pet Policy includes traveling with both small pets in-cabin and has the capacity for larger pets as checked baggage, of course depending on the temperatures, weight and destination you are traveling to.
One thing you may want to take into consinderation with American Airlines is the facts that in 2017 they had 2 pets die on their flights and one injured out of 34,628 pets that flew American last year; however lets not let that be a determining factor until you find out if American Airline Pet Policy can meet you traveling needs.

Are You Ready To Book Your Flight?
As we have discovered American Airline pet travel offers a few different options when flying with your pet to include in-cabin, checked baggage and even an option for cargo if you are sending your pet unattended. American Airline pet policy includes many guidelines to keep both the customer and the pet safe during the flight, even when your pet must fly as checked baggage the area is pressurized and climate controlled.
American Airline pet travel provides for the extra safety of your pet and does not allow pet travel in high or low temperatures which may cause an issue depending on what time of year you are traveling. Considering all aspects of traveling with American Airlines does not sound like a bad deal and fairly safe for your pet.
Gee wizz, I thought it was pretty good that only 2 dogs died out of 34,628 travelling animals in a year. I was actually expecting the number to be much higher than that due to stress, anxiety, altitude, temperature and overall age and health of the animal. I think that the fee of $175 is very reasonable. It’s definitely much cheaper than paying for private boarding fees while you are away on holiday. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Glenys, thanks so much for the comment.
I am sure that stress, anxiety, altitude, temperature and age plays a big role in a dogs health while traveling, the best we can do is hope there is not a problem when flying. The odds are not horrible when you look at how many were transported for the year; however, I am sure the owners of the ones they lost do not feel that way as many people, like me, view their dogs as family members. With that said, just like humans, even in our own homes something tragic could happen to our precious fur babies in a blink of an eye, no matter how hard we try to protect them.
Private boarding can be expensive and may cause stress to the dog as well. I feel that the $175 is reasonable to have your dogs accompany you on your flight.
Awesome post Dena,
I have always owned a dog so I have put off traveling, I never knew you could travel with your pet on an airlines before reading your informational post just now, I imagine I would be charged a hefty fee with a 250 lb Rottweiler but it is nice to know I could travel via plane one day with my pet if I ever needed too.
Thanks for this post,
Jeff
Thanks for your post and yes the airlines do have options for flying your dog; however with the size and weight you would need to go with AACargo.com or check out Delta’s Airline review here. I do know that they charge by weight so at 250 lbs, I imagine it could get quite expensive. According to the shipping regulations Delta transports many different species through the Delta Cargo option so hopefully they could accommodate if the need arises.
Again thanks for posting and stop by my frequently as I am always updating and adding more posts concerning our furry friends.
