If you are shipping a larger pet that does not meet the in-cabin regulations for Delta Airlines Pet Policy they do have an option to ship your pet using Delta Cargo; however from what I understand it is a bit costly as they are charged by weight.

Delta Cargo affirms that they are safe and reliable and are able to ship year round. Delta also commits to having the ability to meet the needs of your pet when shipping separately from you. Delta Cargo pets are monitored during their travel by customer service teams and holding areas or vans are temperature controlled to meet the needs of your pet.

The problem that may arise with Delta Cargo is that your pet may not be on the same flight as you are booked. Separate flights can cause time restraints and you may have to find other people to drop off or pick up your pet from the cargo area. Outlined below are a Delta cargo policies to keep in mind before booking your flights with Delta.

• Your pets flight requires a separate booking through Delta Cargo and there may be additional fees that may apply.
• Your pets Cargo flight cannot be booked prior to 14 days in advance of their flight
• There is no guarantee that your pet will be able to be shipped on the same flight that you the customer will be booked on or have the same flight schedule.
• You will need to drop your pet at Delta Cargo at least three
  hours prior to the pets scheduled flight.
• Picking up your pet will require a Delta Cargo location and cannot exceed 4 hours or after closing. If this happens your pet will be boarded at specialized boarding facility and the customer will be responsible for the charges associated.
• Delta Cargo has online booking for your pet at https://www.deltacargo.com/Cargo/
• At the time of booking let the agent know how much the animal and container weighs to make sure they get on a proper flight as only certain flights can accommodate larger crates or kennels.
• Dogs and Cats must be at least 8 weeks old and a maximum of 2 dogs or 2 cats can be in the same container up to 6 months of age as long as they are comparable in size and under 20lbs each. Dogs and Cats may not occupy the same kennel.
• Delta Airline Pet Policy states that they will not ship any type of snub nosed pets for safety concerns of the pet.
• Appropriate Documentation must be provided with each pet to include a health certification from the vet
• Sedation is not recommended as your pet could become ill at higher altitudes
• Freeze water in container the day before the flight so that as it thaws the pet has drinking water.

 

Weather Restrictions When Flying Delta Cargo

The weather is a determining factor when flying Delta Cargo as the Delta Pet Policy states that temperatures that are too cold or too hot are harmful to a warm blooded pet. If the temperatures on the day you are supposed to fly your pet are not within the guidelines laid out by Delta Cargo they will work with you to accommodate a more reasonable flight for your pet.

It is best is when it is hot to fly your pet early morning or late evening and in the winter when it is cold the best time of day is mid-afternoon.

Delta Airlines Pet Policy offers options when flying with our pet or even other animals. Delta In-Cabin Pets and Delta Cargo pets are able to accommodate small pets and large pets, even pets in the larger series kennels for a price and seem to care about them arriving safely.
